Cardio Exercise Equipment – Treadmill Or Elliptical Trainer?

Jennifer Lynn Hanson asked:

The importance of cardio (cardiovascular) exercise has been well documented over the past few decades. It is now understood and considered fact by all medical professionals and alternative health practitioners that getting regular cardiovascular exercise a few times a week will greatly improve the health of not only your heart, but your entire body as well. In order to get this exercise on a consistent basis, many have chosen to invest in some type of cardio exercise equipment.

There are many types of cardio exercise equipment out there and choosing the right machine is a matter of personal preference and budget. The two best selling types of cardio exercise equipment out there are the treadmill and the elliptical trainer. Both provide the user with excellent cardiovascular workouts, but in a different way.

The treadmill offers a straightforward workout. It takes no more coordination or athletic ability to use it than it takes to walk or run. It simulates the jogging or walking for exercise activity and allows you to do them indoors. Recent advances in technology has created many more new features that make treadmill workouts more exciting and targeted.

This is also true for ellipticals. There are pre-designed and/or custom workout regiments to follow and help you get the most benefit from your time using the machine. The major difference between the elliptical machine and the treadmill is that a workout on an elliptical takes more coordination and athletic skill. It’s a more complicated workout, combining exercise for your legs as well as upper body.

Both types of at home fitness equipment come in varying price ranges. It is a good idea to read some consumer reports and industry expert ratings on a specific brand or model before purchasing.
