Thinking of buying a heart rate monitor? Well there are 3 things you need to know up front before you go ahead and spend you hard earned cash.

The first thing you have to decide is what is the hear rate monitor going to be used for. What sort of exercise do you do and how by monitoring your heart rate are you going to able to improve your performance. That is the biggest question you have too asked your self. If your exercise is simply for your self and is not intended help you compete at a better level then do you really need to buy a heart rate monitor?

If you have decided that you need to monitor your hear rate whilst exercising and this is part a planed exercise routine then you then have too decide on which type of monitor you are going to buy. Their are two main types that are currently available. The wrist watch variety or some times known as a strapless one or the more advanced one with a strap that goes around your chest and a monitor that you can either wear as a watch type or a small receiver. The strapless monitor although usual cheaper will have less features than the more advanced separate monitor ones. They will give a current reading of your heart rate but you usually have to stop to push the sensor with you fingers it get a read out.

The more advanced monitors will be able to give you a lot more information. These are that monitors that your professional athletes will be using. As part of a training program they are invaluable. The. More advance ones will have many features such as an audible signal if you fall out of you optimum performance zone It is surprising how much further you can push yourself when you know exactly what you heart rate should be to give you the optimum performance. They can also have other features such as a calculator for working out calories burnt, also available are auto and manual heart rate settings, average heart rate, stop watch and most have a back late (great for evening time).
