Are Home Fitness Equipment Claims True?
Ed Ferrell asked:
There are many benefits of exercise that have been proven and are well documented. However,
that’s not always the case for advertisers’ claims for exercise equipment.
Most advertisers claim that their exercise equipment offers a quick and easy way to get in shape, and lose weight fast. But, the truth is, there is no such thing as a no-effort, no-work way to a lean, healthy, toned body. In order to get the benefits of exercise requires actually doing the work.
So, before you call and order the latest infomercial wonder product, or jump on the next fitness fad bandwagon, take the time to carefully evaluate the advertisers’ claims for their products.
Always read the fine print. The advertised results are usually based on more than just the use of the product. It is probably based a nutrition plan or restricted calories or a complete exercise program.
Be skeptical of testimonials and before-and-after pictures. Their results may not be typical.
Just because someone else had success with the equipment doesn’t mean you will, too. And celebrity endorsements are no proof that the equipment will work as claimed either.
You should be suspicious of products that make any of the following claims:
Easy or Effortless Results
There is no way to get results without doing the work. If it was easy, no one would be out of shape or overweight.
Burn More Calories or Lose Weight Faster Than Other Types of Equipment
In general, exercise equipment that works your whole body or at least several major muscle groups at the same time will probably burn more calories than devices that work only one isolated muscle at a time. And, the more you use any equipment, the more calories you’ll burn.
Spot Reduce or Target Trouble Spots
There is no way to pick which fat you burn by working a specific muscle or doing a certain exercise. Toning and losing weight in one particular area of the body requires regular exercise that
works the whole body.
Home exercise equipment can be a great way to lose weight and get in shape, but only if you use it properly and regularly. Don’t be taken in by exciting claims of quick, easy and effortless results. There’s no such thing as a no-work, no-sweat way to a toned body.
